Sprinkles – Palo Alto, CA

I have never been a cupcake person so I’ve never bothered walking into Sprinkles, well at least not until now. A was appalled that I have never tried the Red velvet cupcakes from Sprinkles so we stopped by. Situated right at the corner of Stanford Shopping Centre~

Not the biggest space but just good enough since most would order it to go. There is only about half a dozen stools for anyone who chooses to have their cupcakes here.

Menu is right on the back wall with the different cupcakes and pricing and a pretty display of the different cupcakes.

Ridiculously overpriced mini cup cakes for your dogs! o_O

There were also cupcake mixes and other merchandise for sale.

I got a couple of their most popular items and a featured cupcake for October.

Black & White $3.25

Meh… I was not too impressed with this. Just a basic chocolate cupcake with icing topped with chocolate chips. The icing was pretty smooth and not overly grainy but the cake was a tad dry. It does have a good chocolatey flavour but just too crumbly and dry.

Red Velvet $3.25

Pretty darn tasty red velvet cupcake. The cupcake was moist and packful w the distinct flavour red velvet cupcakes have. Icing is pretty smooth and made every bite complete! I could see why this is one of their signature cupcakes.

.

Caramel Apple $3.25

Only offered in the month of October, which is a crime because it is the best of the 3 that I have tried.

This is hands down one of the best cupcake I have had in a while. The cupcake was so moist, a little dense w/o being heavy and still airy. There were chunks of apple and just tasted great and added an interesting textural element. Reminds me of an apple pie in cupcake form w lotsa cinnamon and a caramel-y sweetness instead of the usual sugar-y sweetness (If that makes sense).

Total Damage: $11.36 (including tax)

Personal rating: 3.5 out of 5 (Pretty darn good)

A tad pricey considering each cupcake cost more than a slice of cake from a local bakery but quite worth the price. Not something I would indulge in regularly because of the sugary icing. I was quite pleasantly surprised that none of the cupcakes are disgustingly sweet. Service is fairly non existent since you order at the counter. I feel a lot of pressure to decide fast and on the spot because they give you that vibe especially with a line behind me. A little too chaotic because you order, then they package it and call out your name but you pay where you order or at the other corner so you actually have to squeeze between people who are ordering to try pay. Kinda odd…

I do plan to go back and try the carrot cupcake!!
