Cafe Del Lago – Nuevo Vallarta (Mexico)

We managed to get an upgrade in our room but that meant we had to go speak with someone about our current timeshare and upgrading it to a better one. Before the intense sales pitch, we stopped by Cafe Del Lago on the Mayan grounds for some breakfast. Didn’t stick around for long because we were in quite a rush to head over to Riu and meet the family.

This restaurant serves buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is massive; with indoor and patio seating.

Gotta love the selection of juices; they had my favourite – Watermelon!

The buffet spread was quite impressive! I only manage to take pictures of about 50% of the offerings.

A good variety of in house baked items and cereal~

Waffles & Pancakes with a impressive range of toppings: Whipped cream, nuts, chocolate, apple compote, peach compote, guava compote, caramel and a couple more.

Omelet & Egg station.

Random breakfast sides; including smoked salmon!

Cute single bite servings of Huevos Rancheros, Mash potatoes and more

Rice, Veggies, Pasta, Meat loaf.

There was also sushi!!!

Fruits & yoghurt

Desserts! Now that I am looking back at the photos, I wished I managed to try some dessert~

I tried:

Total Damage: Complimentary (but typically ~$450 Pesos/~USD$35 for 2)

Personal Rating: 2.25 out of 5 (Average)

Food was not very good at all but service was excellent.  It is definitely way overpriced but not unexpected for a breakfast buffet at a resort restaurant. We appreciated the variety but were in kind of a rush to head over to Riu Palace to meet the family so barely got to try much. The stuff we did try were not very good and took forever! I ordered an omelet at the egg station and it took over 10 minutes!

Everything else tasted like it has been sitting for a while, which is disappointing since it was only 10 am BUT I should have expected that considering how empty the restaurant was.
