A Housewife’s Tale episode 36

Another uneventful week. Did a little studying, a little cooking, a little shopping AND a lot of hours spent on Taiwanese and Korean dramas. I could go on and on about the dramas I watched but I will be nice. Let’s get to the menu~

.

.

Sunday – Tai Pan bakery’s black bean spare rib with dark soy sauce over rice.

This dish brings back lots of memories. Growing up, mom used to buy there black bean spare rib with rice when she got dim sum. The most awesome thing is that, they come wrapped up in a plastic bag!!

Monday – What is quick, easy and does not required any creativity? Bibimbap!!! We went shopping on Sunday, so I managed to stock up on all my korean cooking essentials~

Tuesday – More korean! I have been contemplating making this dish for a while now,  but was always worried about how Meep will like it

Jjajangmyun (black bean noodles).

I’ve tried this a couple times and was excited to see how the recipe I found at Maangchi would turn out.

It was not bad at all. But as I expected, Meep was not a big fan of the noodles at all! The bean paste has a certain smell to it, and might be an acquired taste to some.

It didn’t help that the noodles looked like this!!! I managed to make him eat a bowl of it, but none for his lunch the next day~

Wednesday – Our favourite 30 minute meal. Black pepper steak sauce over pork chops and veggies.

Thursday – Nothing exciting here. I actually screwed up this dish a little. I have made these a handful of times, and this is the first time the coconut milk curdled a little. I accidentally forgot about it and it boiled causing the coconut milk to separate. Tasted fine tho~ 😛

Friday – Udon with cod roe and kimchi. As mentioned before, this is the dish that I had at Hapa Izakaya (in Vancouver) and copied. It is pretty close to the original because of this cod roe spaghetti sauce I found in the stores. Mixed with some kimchi and more cod roe!!

Saturday – No cooking done today! I was up studying till 8 am, then slept till 3 pm! So we out out for an early lunch/late dinner.

We finally tried Race Fish & Poultry. This cute little place near home, that sells fresh seafood and some selection of meats. The other half of the store sells cooked seafood – deep fried, grilled along w  a variety of sides.

I forgot my camera but we had deep fried prawns, oysters, fish and chips and potato salad. =)

No exciting experiments this week. Maybe next week??
