Bill’s Cafe (Willow Glen) – San Jose, CA

Before heading to work, CL and I squeezed in a quick bite at Bill’s Cafe before Meep sent her to the airport. We got there at about 10 am and it started filling up real quick. I have only ever dined at the Bill’s Cafe on Bascom but this one in Willow Glen is much bigger and quite tucked away.

I forgot to take a picture of the menu since we were in a bit of a rush but the full menu is on their website with their entrees averaging between $10 – $15. They have a full breakfast menu that is served all day and an extensive lunch menu as well.

We ordered:

Bread Pudding French Toast $9.50

Served with two eggs and choice of sausage or bacon

The french toast is better this time around than when I had it at the other location – mainly because we asked for the syrup on the side. It was swimming in the syrup making it overly sweet before, but this time around we were able to adjust the amount of syrup. The french toast was quite heavy, with generous amounts of walnuts that tasted like it was baked into the bread and dense with a moist centre. It had subtle cinnamon flavours and was very buttery.

The banana was nicely caramelised from grilling and complimented the french toast very well.

Eggs were cooked as requested but the bacon was a tad on the burnt side.

Chicken Apple Sausage & Eggs $8.95

served with country fried potatoes & toast

The eggs were cooked as requested. The sausage was so smoky from the grill and oozing with delicious fat! I wish I was served more than just one sausage with the breakfast. It was sweet and savoury with an intense peppery aftertaste. The potatoes were pretty good as well – cooked through and pan fried with some bell peppers and onions and seasoned with seasoning salt. Very well seasoned.

Tea $2.75

Total Damage:$30 (including tax & tip)

Personal Rating: 3 out of 5 (Good)

Nothing fancy or glamourous but the food definitely hits the spot. Better than your average breakfast with reasonable prices. Best part is that they serve breakfast all day until they close at about 2.30 pm! Service was good, efficient and attentive without being overwhelming. My coffee & water was consistently refilled and the food was served in less than 10 minutes after ordering.
