Crawdaddy – San Jose, CA

Crawdaddy!!! Before coming here, I have only had crawfish in Jambalayas, where they only give you a puny little piece. S & A introduced this place to us back in May and we have been there twice since.

The  menu is a simple one page piece of A4 paper. There isn’t anything fancy; just straighforward and simple items like; boiled cajun garlic butter shrimp, crawfish or crab, deep fried cat fish, breaded shrimp, deep fried oysters, steamed king grab legs and the usual sides.

1/2 dozen fresh oysters – $8.99

The oysters were fresh and tasty. Not as sweet as some smaller varieties, and I have no idea what variety this is… BUT it is fresh, not fishie and good~

1/2 dozen deep fried oysters – $6.99

I was not a big fan of these, it just tasted like fishie fried mushy something. It wasn’t gross, it was edible but not good.

.

Boiled crawfish in garlic butter cajun seasoning – 1 lb/$10.88

For all crawfish, crab or shrimp in butter garlic cajun seasoning – there are 3 levels of spiciness to choose from: mild, medium and hot. I don’t eat spicy food and I find medium pretty darn spicy (lips swelling spicy) and mild to be pretty good.

The hot level is excessive – eye watering, mouth numbing. But that is in my opinion (A loves to order hot and never has any problem)

Lookie – little claws and all. We added corn and sausage— for a price of 50 cents per piece.

The crawfish was good. I think they are too much work for the little piece of goodness BUT very sweet and has more flavour than shrimps. Nothing to complain about here.

Boiled shrimp in garlic butter cajun seasoning – 1 lb/$10.88

My favourite – the shrimps were really fresh. Easy to peel and very sweet tasting. Best value for money as well, same price as the crawfish and filling~

The louisiana sausages were really good as well BUT the corn left much to be desired. It soaked up the sauce/butter seasoning too much and it just spicy and a little mushy.

.

Other items we have tried were:

Steamed king crab legs ($14.99/lb) – I didn’t try it but everyone else liked them

Cajun fries $3.88 – Just like any other fries with seasoning salt, crispy and hot each time they got to our table. Good solid fries.

Sweet potato fries $4.20- Again, just like every other sweet potato fries (they must all get it from the same supplier) taste good and it arrived hot and crispy.

Look at the mess on the table!

I love eating with my fingers and not caring about the fact that we look really primitive; licking our fingers and sucking the heads of the shrimps and crawfish.

Overall – 3.75 out of 5 (Very good)

Good prices, awesome service, fresh seafood = what’s not to like? The cajun seasoning did not soak into the shell fish as much as I would like and was lacking depth.

BUT the owner of the store told us to use the extra sauce ramekins to scoop out the sauce and once the shrimps are shelled and dipped into the excess sauce, they tasted pretty good.
