ABC Seafood Restaurant – Milpitas, CA

Went to ABC Seafood to start Chinese New Year off on the right way! Met up w SK & A at 10.30 am at the restaurant~ The restaurant in located on the 2nd floor of a plaza in Milpitas.

We got there before 11 am so there was no wait for a table. By the time we left at about noon, there wasa huge line out the door!

Restaurant was very big, looked clean and pretty good~

Carts don’t get pushed around until past 11 am, before that there is a picture dim sum menu~

We ordered:

Crispy Egg Tart (M) $3.50

I was pleasantly surprised by the egg tarts. The shell was warm and crumbly with smooth eggy filling. The pastry was a little thicker than I would have liked but still a very good egg tart~

Pork & Shrimp Dumpling (Siu Mai) (M) $3.50

Juicy, sweet and salty siu mai. It was pretty good~ There was not a lot of shrimp, but the pork and mushrooms were plenty and it was a decent size.

Chicken Feet w Black Bean Sauce (M) $3.50

Not bad. I am not used to the amount of black pepper that was in this dish. It was more peppery than black bean. There was also a hint of heat from the chili. The pork was meaty with not too much fat which is greatly appreciated~

Baked BBQ Pork Bun (S) $2.80

I was surprised that the BBQ pork buns were considered “small” items~ They could have easily charged more for them. Pretty good sweet soft yellow bun with bbq pork filling. Not too much filling, which I appreciate~

Stir Fried Rice Roll w XO sauce (C) $6.50

I was quite indifferent to this dish. It came off a little bland eventhough it looks pretty darn tasty. Their XO sauce was just mediocre.

Vegetarian Fried Tofu (C) $6.50

Meh… The tofu was ok. Not a huge fan of tofu but this dish got to our table cold so I was not crazy about it from the get-go. Nicely battered deep fried tofu with seaweed, tossed in chili and garlic

Grilled Chicken Satay (C) $6.50

Another mediocre dish. What were we thinking, ordering Chicken Satay for dim sum. It tasted like oyster sauce glazed chicken. Not bad but nothing to write home about.

4 Teas @ $1 each

Total Damage: $52 (including tax & tip)

Personal Rating: 3.5 out of 5 (Good)

I was not a big fan of the big plates but the steamed and baked small dim sum items were pretty good. Pretty reasonably priced, fresh and good quality dim sum. Just get there before noon because the line gets crazy (about 1/2 hour wait).

Service is OK, typical of any busy Chinese restaurant where you need to flag someone down and also the carts go around fairly frequently and is usually quite full with freshly steamed stuff.
