Teppan Village – Whistler, BC (Canada)

Teppan Village is a Japanese Style Steakhouse in Whistler. This was my first dinnerat a “Japanese” steakhouse, and I don’t know what to make of it (lol).

The chefs prepare your meal in front of a giant flat top and performs at the same time. It is kinda odd, and almost seems like a weird circus show with food involved. The chef started off with preparing our sauces.

Midway through the meal, the chef started juggling, toss and play around with these wooden things (I have no idea what they are but they look like salt & pepper mills)

Onto the food. Everything is prepared at the same time except the appetisers and sushi rolls.

My roomie and I started off with:

Shiitake Mushrooms & Scallops $12

Sauteed in butter, soy sauce and lemon

I was underwhelmed by the dish BUT the scallops were so fresh but overall, the dish was very boring.

For the mains, our group tried an array of Seafood dinner, Filets and Chicken.

Seafood dinner $57

Garden Salad, Miso Soup, Teppan Vegetables, Steamed Rice and a live 1 lb lobster.

Land lover’s dinner $45

Garden Salad, Miso Soup, Teppan Vegetables, Steamed Rice, Filet Mignon, Teriyaki Chicken & Shiitake Mushrooms.

New York steak (16oz) $44

served with Garden Salad, Miso Soup, Teppan Vegetables

First everyone gets a bit of veggies, not a good amount but tasted ok.

Then the meat get cooked to requested temperature and plopped onto our plates.

Roomie and I chose to split the new york steak. I would normally like like my meat in a big slab rather than cut up but this does give a lot of flavour from the grill and we can try all 3 sauces.

I don’t know how much dinner added up to because it was a treat from an awesome friend. But personally, from the prices on the menu – prices are reasonable, everything is very fresh and prepared well but the overall flavours are not just kinda meh.. You are paying for the experience of what a Japanese Steakhouse is; simple and well prepared food.

Overall personal rating – 3 out of 5 (Good, Tasty food).

Note: 15% gratuity is added onto groups of 6 or more (which is very reasonable for the service received)
