San Pedro Square Bistro & Wine Bar – San Jose, CA

Heading here for dinner on Monday. Our group consisted of 5 adults and a little boy. I was surprised at how tiny this place is but I liked the feel and the deco of the place. Nothing pretentious, lotsa wines as the main part of the display in the bar that took up 1/4 of the restaurant space.
.
Service was OK. The waiter never offered black pepper for our food and I could not find any salt and pepper on any tables. Maybe Mondays are slow days so the servers might be a lil slack. And we were happy to be left alone to catch up. My in-laws were in town and we were having dinner w her cousin, wife n their lil boy

What we ordered
.
Sizzling Cornish Hen glazed with honey garlic butter sauce. $14
This would probably be the best of all the dishes ordered that night. S loved the dish but was not a big fan of the rice. Two individuals ordered this dish and they both really liked the chicken and salad.
.
.
Certified Angus Bone-in Rib Eye steak (20 oz). $26
This was cooked well. But how hard can it be to grill meat? It is supposed to be Cajun Rubbed but I barely tasted any seasoning on the meat. T ordered this and ate up everything but he was not blown away or impressed. I had a couple pieces and it was just blah.
.
.
Linguine w Jumbo prawns. $14.
It was not bad, the prawns were looking a little overcooked. It was okay… Meep didn’t seem to enjoy it as much as he normally does with his food. He ended up snacking on the garlic fries on my plate.
.
.
Rack of Lamb with Merlot wine reduction sauce. $27.
This dish was an outright fail. The wine reduction sauce was not a sauce (unlike some other pictures on Yelp); it was more like a tablespoon of runny sour liquid poured onto the meat. And is it me, or does the lamb look deep fried; cut then popped in the oven?
Look at the crust, not pan seared or grilled.. that looks like fried meat! I didn’t order the gnocchi and opt to sub my gnocchi with garlic fries. Sadly, those fries were the highlight of our dinner.
.
Did i mention the lamb did not taste fresh? Very very disappointing. Considering how 90 YELP viewers gave this place an overall 4 stars out of 5…

Personal rating 2.5 out of 5 (Average)
It would have been less but considering 2 out of 5 diners kept raving about their chicken. I think they deserve a passing grade. But Meep and I would prolly not be back.
