Choi’s Kitchen – Santa Clara, CA

^o^  More Korean. This time, not me attempting mediocre Korean food but us eating out at an authentic Korean restaurant. Headed out w S&A to Choi’s Kitchen in Santa Clara. It looks very Asian alright, neon lights on the exterior n lotsa christmas lights in the interior.

We let the only but fake (coz he no speaky korean) Korean order for us. The table filled up quickly with various panchans (complimentary side dishes)My favourites were the pickled radish, napa cabbage kimchi and the Japchae. First place where I ever gotten Japchae as a side dish for free AND still piping hot AND delish!!
.
The mung bean jelly stuff was weird (I had to look up what kinda jelly this was coz I have never had this AND  it tasted a lil fishy, maybe the sauce? or just me). Potato and fishcake was not bad. Did not try the beansprouts or cucumber kimchi tho (not a big fan). NINE panchans! ^___________^ me likes!

Fried seafood pancake $12.99
Reviews on Yelp mentioned this GINORMOUS seafood pancake and raved about it. Pretty good and still better than all the other ones I have had. This place is really kicking ass at this point.

BBQ short ribs (Kalbi) $14.99
This came out so hot I can’t take a decent pic coz of the steam. I preferred the ribs that are long-cuts and rolled up then cut at the table. This was surprisingly tender so I liked it just fine.

.
Dolsot Bibimbap $11.99
Meep has been asking me to prepare this dish for him but I didn’t know much about it and the idea of all those veggies (ugh)… this was not bad w the sweet spicy gochujang. I was feeling myself up on dishes closer to me and didn’t have very much of this, which was at the other end of the table.

Pork Soondobu $8.99
Look at this bubbling spicy goodness.
ADD a raw egg ( I shud have mixed it up so you guys could see the soft tofu goodness)
The tofu stew was thick and stewy. My pet peeve is getting soondobu and it is not stewy but runny. I love this over white rice – *LOVE*

Personal Rating – 3.5 out of 5.
Very good value for money and pretty home-y korean cooking. Not much to complain about. Have not tried enough dishes to rate any higher. :)
