Psycho Donuts – San Jose, CA

I was always meaning to check out Psycho Donuts at their flagship store in Campbell, until they opened one right in downtown San Jose~ Can’t really miss the store with their intense art work.

While we checked out the donuts selection, we were offered a little piece of bubble wrap. I love love bubble wrap, makes me smile.

This is the best one! The price of this giant donut drops every hour as it is less fresh! Isn’t that ingenius?

Here is a range of what I have tried:

Raspberry jelly filled donut. The raspberry jelly was really tasty – tangy and sweet. I thought it needed a little bit more filling but overall, pretty good.

Comfortably Numb

Donut with Chocolate filling . I was unimpressed with this donut because I was expected lotsa gooey chocolate but only 1/3 of this donut had filling, the other 2/3 was just ol’ regular donut with powder sugar.

Cinnamon Troll

Cinnamon donut with honey butter glaze. One of the more simple items offered but also my favourite. The honey butter glaze is rich and good with the plain donut. I got this twice and it made a huge difference when I got it soon after the donuts were made VS a few hours just sitting there.

Feng Shui

Green tea icing with chunks of dark chocolate. Quite an underwhelming icing. The green tea flavour was way too subtle and so it just tasted more like sugary donut w a slight hint of green tea.

Kooky Monster

Donut topped with Oreo cookies and icing. Not my favourite. The oreos got a little “stale” I guess from just sitting there. Crazy amount of oreos and icing making this quite a challenge to eat.

Personal Rating: 3 out of 5 (Good)

Other than the novelty of the cute range of donuts & flavours, the actual donut dough which is the base of all the donuts is not that great. I noticed it made a huge difference when I microwaved the donuts for a quick 10 secs. I was told they get deliveries twice a day, once in the morning and once at 3 pm. I am going to try get there when the fresh donuts get delivered!

There are a lot of interesting ones that I have yet to try – like the Hamburger Donut or Donut fries~ The novelty does keep people like me going back!

Prices range from $2 to $4 for the specialty donuts. Great service everytime I head over to grab a couple. Definitely some hits and misses but all very intriguing.
