Route 99 Diner – Edmonton, AB (Canada)

The restaurant was so quaint! it was like hopping into a time machine and being transported back to a genuine old diner. I have expected the servers would appear in a powder blue or baby pink/peach dress with white ruffled aprons and roller skates (tee hee hee).

There is the open “kitchen” and a display of desserts, which were planted simply and looking very homemade/retro!

Menu was quite random – with all day breakfast, burgers, old classics like Liver & onions, pizzas and even donairs and souvlakis!

We ordered:

3 orders of  2 eggs breakfast w choice of Bacon, Bausage or Ham served with Hashbrowns & Toast $6.99 each

All 3 plates of breakfast had eggs that were cooked perfectly to our specifications. The sausages were the typical breakfast sausage, butterflied and browned on the flat top. Delicious~

I don’t care much for hashbrowns but Meep loved them. They were  made with fresh potatoes, shredded and crisped up on the flat top. Seasoned well and good (his words).

French Toast $2.99

I am a total sucker for french toasts. Simple, prepared well and delicious. If only 1 side order came with two slices (sigh).

Not pictured:

3 Egg omelette with Cheese & Bacon $7.99

4 cups coffees @ $1.90 each – mediocre coffee.

2 glasses of Orange juices @1.79 each – your average Minute Maid juice.

Total Damage: $50 (including tax & tip)

Personal Rating: 3.25 out of 5 (Good)

Decent prices, well prepared breakfast and efficient service. Meep & I were impressed when we noticed there was only ONE person working and serving the whole restaurant. It was 10 am on a Monday morning, so I guess they are usually not too busy so one person could cope. The food came out in less than 15 minutes and coffee was frequently refilled. Oh and they serve breakfast ALL DAY! What’s not to like?
