This recipe is as simple as a recipe can get. Adapted from Brandielle who posted this recipe in Tasty Kitchen. When I first tried it, I was skeptical about how it would turn out because I could not believe how easy this recipe is. But I was quite impressed. I have tried a few other recipes but so far for a simple chocolate fix – this is it.
.
.
You will need:
4 oz of semi sweet chocolate
1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
2 whole eggs
2 egg yolks
3/4 cup powdered sugar
6 tablespoon flour
.
.
Step 1: Place butter and chocolate in a glass bowl and microwave (high) for 45 secs.
.
Step 2: Stir the chocolate until all chocolate is melted.
.
Step 3: Add sugar and mix well.
.
Step 4: Add eggs and mix well.
.
Step 5: Sift flour into the bowl and mix well.
.
Step 6: Pop in the refrigerator for about 3-5 minutes.
You can skip this step but I noticed that if the mix is well cooled, chances of the cake cooking through and not having the molten centre is lower.
Step 7: Grease inside of 4 ramekins with butter. (I think these are 6 oz ramekins)
.
Step 8: Fill in with cooled cake mix.
.
Step 9 : Pop in 425F oven for 13 minutes.
.
Step 10: Let sit for about a minute and then use a knife and go around the edges of the ramekin. Then place it upside down on a plate and wiggle till cake falls out.
.
Step 11: Flip cake over. Sprinkle powder sugar, then serve with some fresh berries and whipped cream.

Hi! 🙂 This looks yummy and simple to make (thanks to your step-by-step photos!) I’ve never baked this before and was wondering would the inside of the cake (‘lava’) harden after few hours? I am thinking of baking this for a gift.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
😀
hi, yes the lava will thicken after few hours but it wont be baked through but this taste best warm so my suggestion would be:
baked it for less than 10 minutes instead of 13, and when u wanna eat them microwave for about 10 secs (or 15 depending on you microwave). it shud stil be soft but almost fudgey in the center,.
=) let me know how they turn out~
p/s: every oven is different so sometimes i just bake one first. time it and see how long it needs. once the top has a nice crust (9-10 mins), it shud be ok to transport… and u microwave when needed.
